Tribute Hotels has collaborated with a pool of local talent to unfold stories about Hong Kong and Yau Ma Tei and inject them with a fresh and contemporary spin. From our façade down to the tiniest in-room detail, you’ll find a trail of design features mixing the old and the new in unexpected ways.
To keep the history of our building alive, we’ve uncovered the building’s original façade as well as elements of its construction. The old and the new now mingle in the entrance and on the outside of the building.
We’ve also extracted the essence of the famous Cha Chaan Tengs, local diners, to enrich our design vocabulary. Their traditional green terrazzo tiles inspired us to instill the washrooms with local vintage flair.
Dim sum joints are a staple of Hong Kong’s food scene. Their legendary steaming dim sum carts being wheeled around the restaurants prompted us to present you with our version of it with the food & beverage cart you’ll find in the lobby.
You’ll also nose out hints of brass and black painted metal that our designers used to reflect the good looks of the original projector of the historic Yau Ma Tei theatre that’s right around the corner.
Fun fact –Yau Ma Tei used to be a fishing village and we’ve tied this bit of history back into our rooms with wire baskets akin to those used by the local fishermen. They will make for the perfect place to put away your shoes and clothes during your stay with us.
The spirit of Yau Ma Tei also lives in our bespoke blue and white porcelain wares that you’ll find in your rooms and at breakfast time. The patterns adorning the wares are fuelled by elements of surrounding architecture that you’ll be able to discover during your walks around Yau Ma Tei. Punched metal gates, window grilles, floor tiles are revisited with a contemporary twist.
To add the finishing touches, our muted colour palette enhanced with natural timber herringbone floors, custom walnut furniture, simple, white bathroom tiles and brass fittings complement the local references in our design with contemporary notes.
We’ll keep the rest a secret so we don’t spoil the surprise. See you soon!
